Chasing winter landscapes
This was a fantastic day beginning with a brisk stroll from Taughannock Falls State Park. A beautiful sunny but cold, windless day.
This was a fantastic day beginning with a brisk stroll from Taughannock Falls State Park. A beautiful day - there was no reason not to be outdoorsy.
Our discomfort is forgotten once we see the main falls framed within the walls of the gorge and lit perfectly by the afternoon sun.
The day started out as a lazy day without much planning, a destination was decided upon almost as an afterthought, and most certainly out of boredom. Winter conditions limit viewing access to the falls so we decided to hike the Gorge Trail. This day was brisk and the cold was intensified when hiking in he shadow of the gorge. The falls clearly heard in the distance gave proof that despite the ice the power of the water could not be held. Though the ice formed on the cliffs and trail, which made our unprepared hike that much more difficult, it gave us a sense of 'being in the moment'. Our discomfort is forgotten once we see the main falls framed within the walls of the gorge and lit perfectly by the low afternoon sun. Our hike back is light and easy. Any discomfort by the temperatures is forgotten as we have just witnessed natures beauty.
